Buy an Asset with Buy Now Pay Later

This article walks you through a purchase on the Buy Now Pay Later page (Pay Later in the menu) of the Nolus Web App, from funding your account to seeing the purchase in your list. For what a purchase is and how its loan works, see Understanding Buy Now Pay Later.

Before you start

  • A connected wallet. Connect Phantom or Solflare with Connect in the top right. You can look around the page and read the buy card's preview without a wallet; the wallet is needed only to buy.

  • USDC in your Nolus account. Every purchase is paid in USDC, whatever asset you buy, and the payment comes from your Nolus account, not straight from your wallet. Use Fund in the Account popover (the wallet button in the header) to move USDC in. If you hold only SOL, swap some of it to USDC in your Solana wallet first, then fund the USDC: the app has no swap of its own. See Fund & Withdraw Assets.

You need enough USDC for the part you pay today, not for the whole purchase, plus a little for the Nolus network fee, which is paid from your Nolus account in one of the assets the network accepts (NLS, cbBTC, HYPE, SOL, USDC, USDC (Noble) and wETH). If USDC is all you hold there, fund a little more than today's part.

1. Open the Buy Now Pay Later page

Click Pay Later in the header. On a phone or a narrow window, open the menu button at the top left of the header and pick Pay Later. The page shows the asset you are buying with its price chart on the left and the buy card on the right (below it on a phone).

2. Pick the asset

Click the asset at the top of the left card, with its price and 24-hour move, to open the list of assets you can buy. On a phone it opens as a full-screen sheet titled Markets. You can:

  • Type in Search Assets to find an asset by its ticker or name.

  • Use the category buttons, starting with All, to narrow the list.

  • Compare the Price and 24h columns.

An asset you already hold a purchase of carries an Owned badge and is listed first. Pick an asset and the chart and the buy card switch to it, and the card's title reads Buy followed by the asset, for example Buy SOL.

3. Pick a plan

Choose Pay 50% Now (the plan the card starts with) or Pay 75% Now. Each plan card shows what you would pay today, for example "$100.00 today" for a 200 USDC purchase on Pay 50% Now, once you have typed an amount.

4. Type the purchase amount

In Amount, type the full size of the purchase in USDC, not the part you pay today. For example, 200 on Pay 50% Now buys $200 of the asset for $100 today. Beside the field, Balance shows the USDC in your Nolus account, and under it the purchase's value in dollars.

5. Read the preview

Above the preview, You get about shows how much of the asset you would get, in the asset itself, for example in SOL. It is an estimate: the price can move a little while the purchase goes through. Under it, the preview has four lines:

  • "You pay {amount} today": the part of the purchase you pay now.

  • "Pay the other {amount} whenever you like": the loan, which you pay back at your own pace.

  • "Interest is about {amount} a month": the interest on the loan, at a rate that stays the same for the life of the purchase. If a zero-interest campaign covers the asset for your account, the amount is struck through beside a green 0% and a 0% tag follows the card's title.

  • "If {asset} falls to {price}, part of it is sold to repay the loan": the price at which the first partial sale would happen.

Until you type an amount, the preview reads "Enter an amount to see a preview".

6. Buy

Click Buy followed by the asset, for example Buy SOL. Without a connected wallet, this opens the wallet picker instead: connect, then click it again. Your wallet then asks you to approve the transaction, which carries a small network fee.

The page stays where it is. The new purchase appears in Your Purchases under the buy card, with "Buying..." in place of its Pay button while the asset is being bought. Once the purchase is open, its figures fill in and Pay appears. The app shows no separate confirmation; the row in Your Purchases is the confirmation.

To pay for it later, see Pay for a Purchase.

Limits and messages

Each asset has a smallest and a largest purchase. The smallest purchase is about $80 on Pay 50% Now and about $53.34 on Pay 75% Now. The largest depends on the asset. The field tells you when an amount is outside the limits, and names the exact figure in USDC:

  • "Enter at least {minAmount} USDC": the purchase is below the smallest one for this asset and plan.

  • "Enter at most {maxAmount} USDC": the purchase is above the largest one.

  • "Insufficient balance": the part you pay today is more than the USDC in your Nolus account. The preview still shows, so you can see the figures before you fund.

  • "Invalid amount": the field holds zero or something that is not a number.

  • "Enter an amount": you clicked Buy with the field empty.

  • "Not enough liquidity, try again later": the lending pool has nothing to lend for this purchase right now. Try a smaller amount or come back later.

If "Purchase Not Made" appears

Rarely, a purchase cannot be completed after you approved it. An Alert titled Purchase Not Made then appears under the buy card, reading "The {amount} you paid was returned to your account", or "What you paid was returned to your account" when the app does not have the amount. The USDC you paid is back in your Nolus account, and the purchase does not appear in your list. You can try again. Close the Alert with its close button. It shows only in the browser tab you bought from, until you close it or reload the page.
