Buy Now Pay Later lets you buy an asset such as SOL today while paying only part of its price. You pay that part now in USDC, and the rest is a loan with interest that you pay back whenever you like, backed by the asset itself: if its price falls far enough, part of the asset is sold to repay the loan. You find it on the Buy Now Pay Later page (Pay Later in the menu) of the Nolus Web App.
How it works
You pick an asset, choose how much of the price to pay today, and type the size of the purchase in USDC. Nolus lends you the rest and buys the whole amount of the asset for you. The asset is held for you until the loan is paid, and you can see it, with what is left to pay, under Your Purchases on the Buy Now Pay Later page.
There is no schedule of fixed installments. You pay as much as you want, whenever you want, with Pay. Interest on the loan falls due every 30 days, so the one thing to keep up with is the interest (see below). Once everything is paid, the asset itself is transferred to your Nolus account and it is yours to keep, hold or withdraw.
The two plans
Every purchase uses one of two plans, which you pick on the buy card before you buy:
Pay 50% Now: you pay half of the purchase today and borrow the other half. This is the plan the card starts with.
Pay 75% Now: you pay three quarters today and borrow one quarter. The loan is smaller, so the interest is lower and the price has to fall much further before any of the asset is sold.
Each plan card shows what you would pay today for the amount you typed. You cannot change the plan of a purchase once it is made.
Interest
You pay interest on the loan only, not on the part you paid today. The rate is set when you buy and stays the same for the life of the purchase. Before you buy, the buy card states it as a monthly amount in dollars: "Interest is about {amount} a month".
Interest falls due every 30 days, and Interest Due shows the exact date: in Your Purchases, that column shows the interest owed so far and the date it is due by. Pay it with the Pay button in the purchase's row: in the dialog that opens, the Interest Due button fills in that amount for you, or $1.00 when the interest is under $1, the smallest payment. When three days or less remain before the due date, an Alert titled Interest Due Soon appears on the page, reading "Pay {amount} by {date} or it's taken from your {asset}".
Interest still unpaid after its due date is taken from the asset itself: a small part of the asset is sold to cover it, and Activities records it as "Interest of {amount} taken from your {asset}". That leaves you with less of the asset for the same loan, which brings a partial sale closer.
If the price falls
The asset you bought backs the loan. If its price falls far enough, part of the asset is sold to repay part of the loan. Only the part needed to bring the loan back to a safe level is sold, and the rest stays yours. If the price keeps falling, more can be sold, and in the end all of it.
How far the price can fall depends on the plan. At the moment you buy, before any interest builds up, the first partial sale comes after a fall of about 44% from the price you bought at on Pay 50% Now, and about 72% on Pay 75% Now. Unpaid interest brings that point closer, and every payment you make moves it further away.
You see the exact price before you buy: the last line of the buy card's preview reads "If {asset} falls to {price}, part of it is sold to repay the loan". After you buy, the page warns you in two ways, and push alerts, if you turned them on, cover purchases too (worded as a position):
An Alert titled "{asset} Is Close to Being Partly Sold" appears on the Buy Now Pay Later page, reading "Pay {amount} to keep your {asset} safe". Its button opens Pay with that amount filled in. Paying it brings the purchase back to a safe level at today's price; if the price keeps falling, part of the asset can still be sold.
In the Pay dialog, the preview tells you the price your asset is safe above after the payment you typed.
You can close an Alert with its close button. It stays hidden while you stay on the page, and comes back on your next visit if the purchase still needs attention.
What you can do with a purchase
Pay is the only action on a purchase. You can pay part of what you owe or all of it, whenever you like, in USDC; Pay is greyed out only while the protocol is working on the purchase, for example during a partial sale.
There is no way to sell a purchase, close it early, move the asset to your wallet while the loan is open, or set a Stop Loss or Take Profit. To get the asset, pay off the loan: the asset is then transferred to your Nolus account and appears in your Balances. Moving it from there to your Solana wallet is up to you, with Withdraw in the Account popover, as described in Fund & Withdraw Assets.
Zero-interest campaigns and referrals
Zero-interest campaigns cover purchases exactly as they cover margin positions. If a campaign covers the asset for your account, a 0% tag follows the buy card's title and the interest line shows the amount struck through beside a green 0%. A purchase the campaign covers carries the same 0% tag in Your Purchases, and Activities shows the campaign's payments as "Interest of {amount} paid for you on your {asset}".
A referral link works for purchases too: a purchase counts toward the referrer's share just as a margin position does. See Revenue Share.
Which assets you can buy
Today you can buy cbBTC, HYPE, JLP, JUP, NVDAx, PUMP, RAY, SOL, wETH and ZEC. The list on the page is always the current one. Every purchase is paid in USDC, whatever asset you buy. The smallest purchase is about $80 on Pay 50% Now and about $53.34 on Pay 75% Now.
How it differs from a margin position
A purchase runs on the same lending protocol as a margin long, but it is a different product with simpler choices:
You choose one of two plans instead of setting your own leverage.
You pay in USDC only.
A purchase has no profit and loss figure, no Close, no Stop Loss or Take Profit and no page of its own. It is listed under Your Purchases on the Buy Now Pay Later page, not under Your Positions on the Margin page.
When you pay it off, you get the asset itself in your Nolus account, rather than closing a trade.
If you want to choose your own leverage, go short, or close a trade for its profit or loss, a margin position is the tool for that. See Understanding Nolus Asset-Backed Margin Leverage.
The risks in plain words
If the asset's price falls far enough, part or all of it is sold to repay the loan, and you can end up with less of the asset than you bought, or none of it.
Interest you do not pay is taken from the asset, which leaves you with less of it and brings a sale closer.
The amount of the asset you get is an estimate until the purchase goes through, since the price can move a little while it is bought.
The asset is yours only once the loan is paid off. Until then you cannot sell it or move it.
Pay 75% Now leaves much more room for the price to fall than Pay 50% Now. Read Understanding the Risks Involved before you buy.
